Weather & Climate Writing
Like most beginning newspaper reporters, Jack wrote about weather events such as ice storms from the beginning. In the late 1970s, while he was a night copy editor for the Rochester (NY) Democrat & Chronicle, and studying meteorology at a local college during the day, he begin to write about scientific aspects of weather.
At USA Today beginning in 1982 he wrote about weather events and helped other reporters with the meteorological aspects of their stories. He also begin joining atmospheric scientists at work on tornado chases and in hurricane-hunting airplanes.
